Seventeen years is too long a fog
Place upon the mantle your old volume with a new rose
Time does not sympathize, marches in spite of you
Your bones are still older
Your days are still numbered
Seventeen years of this
Don’t really matter
As long as the rent gets paid
As long as the kids get fed
Your half life’s your whole life now
Sleep long enough and the rest of it sloughs off
You are not special, you were just lucky
No one will wake you
With kiss or with curse
You weren’t saved for greatness
You’re no sleeping beauty
Seventeen years haven’t taught you a thing
Everyone’s sick of your zombie act by now
Just wake the fuck up or admit you never will
